Two new crystallation techniques used. Looked at batch crstallation - saw crystals midway. Precipitate- crystals- nothing. Free interphase crystallization with twice the amount of salt and protein concentration but no mixing to thuis create a distinct crystal curve.
Vapor diffusion technique used which utilizes the equilibration of 2 solutions through air. More equations used- basic algebraic principles but we went through actual equations for understanding. Looked at other students' crystals- saw the clover shape of HIV crystals- very exciting. Spoke to Professor regarding HIV vaccine development and the difficulty in creating patterns for crystals without sharp edges.
Tomorrow- Look at crystals- meet with grad students proposals. Lots of hands-on- very pleased.
